AMONG SAVAGES
Among Savages is the moniker of American singer, songwriter, and producer Peter Barbee. Born in rural Appalachia in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, Barbee moved to Nashville at 16 to pursue a career in music. He released his debut album, Wanderings of an Illustrative Mind, in 2012, followed by Accounts of Friend and Foe in 2018, which led to tours across North America and Europe. His third album, Between Two Kingdoms, is slated for release beginning in fall 2025.
Barbee’s songwriting is deeply autobiographical, often written from a first-person perspective. His work is marked by a radical honesty and lyrical simplicity that stands apart from the mass-produced feel of much modern pop. Rather than treating songs as products, he views them as something to be discovered over time—arriving organically rather than being forced. This intentional, slow-burning approach has defined the Among Savages project for over fifteen years.
Beyond his solo work, Barbee is a sought-after collaborator, having written for artists including Kimbra, Mark Foster (Foster the People), The Lone Bellow, Felix Rauber, Madi Diaz, Natalie Prass, and Mikky Ekko. He has also worked with Early James, Matthew Perryman Jones, and Daniel James (Paramore, Efterklang).
In addition to songwriting, Barbee is an accomplished composer and producer for TV, film, and advertising. In 2019, he founded Firehouse n.2, a residential studio just outside Nashville, where he serves as owner and head engineer. The studio has become a creative haven for artists seeking an inspiring retreat from the distractions of city life.
He currently splits his time between Kentucky and Berlin, where he will be based throughout the remainder of 2025.
